SUMMARY:RISE 2021: SAVAGE - Dance North Youth Company
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Gail Sneddon \nPerformance Times:\nSaturday 3 July & Sunday 4 July\n13.00 / 16.00 / 19.00 \n“You may forget\, but let me tell you this: someone in the future will think of us” – Sappho \nSAVAGE is an immersive dance theatre performance piece set in the stunning landscape of the Findhorn dunes. We\, the audience are guided by young women\, the last of their kind\, into an elemental world outside of time and place. We pass through mythic spirals and labyrinths and are drawn deeper into the centre of an unfolding mystery. Who are these women? Who are we to them? What is their story? What do they want from us? \nEach one of us will journey together yet alone listening to the soundtrack on headphones. \n“Your footsteps echo in the land that once was ours” – The Women

SUMMARY:RISE 2021: Double Bill - The Solo Piece & At Once
DESCRIPTION:A RISE 2021 double bill: two performances by two artists; old friends and collaborators. Each reaching into their past to adapt and update an older work into something new. \nPerformance Times:\nFriday 2 July – 16:00\, 19:30\nSaturday 3 July – 12:00 \nThe Solo Piece – Matteo Fargion\nDuration: 25mins \nThe Solo Piece (2018) was commissioned by the Labor Sonor Festival\,Berlin\, for which I was one of six composers invited to make dance pieces. \nI thought it might be interesting to have another go at translating the score of Morton Feldman’s For John Cage\, which Jonathan Burrows and I borrowed to make our first duo performance Both Sitting Duet in 2002\, and which was recently retranslated by Eleanor Sikorski and Flora Wellesley Wesley (aka Nora) to make Eleanor & Flora Music. \nBut this time it’s just me on stage\, waving my arms. And this lonelier counterpoint is now between my voice and the meaningless gestures that I make. There is almost no new material in the piece\, it’s all shamelessly stolen from those early duets made with Jonathan\, and I liked how different it looked when rewritten in this way.\n– Matteo Fargion \nAt Once – Karl Jay-Lewin\nChoreography and Direction: Deborah Hay\nAdaptation: Karl Jay-Lewin\nDuration 25-30 mins \nAt Once (2021) is a re-adaptation of a solo made and performed from 2009-11. The work was commissioned by an international group of individual dance artists\, from seminal US choreographer\, Deborah Hay. Each dancer\, following Deborah’s choreographic score and direction\, made their own unique adaptation of the work. Ten years later\, during one of Deborah’s many visits to Findhorn\, I thought it would be interesting to start all over again… \nFor this performance\, I have invited friend and collaborator Matteo Fargion (Extremely Pedestrian Chorales) to gently accompany me\, probably on the piano.\n– Karl Jay-Lewin \nKarl Jay-Lewin & Matteo Fargion last collaborated on Extremely Pedestrian Chorales: \n***** The Herald\n**** The Scotsman\n**** ScotsGay\n**** The List

SUMMARY:Findhorn Dunes Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join The Findhorn Dunes Trust\, a charity set up by gift in 2000\, to explore and discover the importance of the 175 acres of dunes along the Moray coast. \nWe shall walk around much of the area to see the varied\, enduring but delicate nature of the dunes and their plant cover. The area is now firmly established as a site of National Importance for lichens\, and we’ll explore many of these and other plant cover\, including some invasive species. \nOn route\, we’ll also see the Trusts work in looking after this area and a chance to see a demonstration on pine sapling removal. There are expansive views\, on a clear day\, across the Moray Firth to Sutherland and Caithness. The Moray Firth has a rich marine habitat\, and a variety of wildlife can be spotted from the height advantage of some of the larger dunes. \nSome dunes have short steep slopes and there is an area of dunes on the seaward side that despite the ongoing dune erosion supports a colony of sand martins.\nOn the walk\, we shall see several remnants of industrial archaeology as well as evidence of further coastal erosion. \nMore info and tickets
